Working in Antarctica Quiz

Scenario 1

You are working in the carpentry workshop with your colleague and you are completing an urgent job. You notice that your colleague is taking a shortcut and doing something that doesn’t appear to be following the standard work procedure. What would you do?

Your answer was (b)

(a) Decide it is really nothing to do with you – turn a blind eye and ignore the behaviour with a ‘she’ll be right’ attitude.

(b) Speak to your colleague and suggest slowing down a bit and following the correct procedures.

(c) Contact your supervisor and discuss the situation.

It is good to be open and up front with everyone. Hopefully your colleague will accept this and be receptive to your suggestion.

The key to establishing and maintaining good relationships on station is good inter-personal communication.

If you have a problem or an issue with someone or a situation, discuss it first with the people involved.

Only then, if the situation does not change, should you report it to your supervisor.
