Working in Antarctica Quiz

Scenario 1

You are working in the carpentry workshop with your colleague and you are completing an urgent job. You notice that your colleague is taking a shortcut and doing something that doesn’t appear to be following the standard work procedure. What would you do?

Your answer was (c)

(a) Decide it is really nothing to do with you – turn a blind eye and ignore the behaviour with a ‘she’ll be right’ attitude.

(b) Speak to your colleague and suggest slowing down a bit and following the correct procedures.

(c) Contact your supervisor and discuss the situation.

It is a bit heavy handed to report it directly to the supervisor without first discussing the issue with your colleague.

This is likely to cause bad relationships on station.

It is much better to be open and up front with your colleague and discuss your concerns.

The key to good relationships on station is to create an environment in which you can openly discuss your
work and how you can do it safely. If you act in this way you will create respect and trust in each other.
