Site services connect the heating hot water, potable water, fire fighting water, sewage and electrical services, and communications to the station buildings.

This reticulated pipe system is situated above ground for ease of maintenance, and heat traced to prevent freezing.

Heating is essential to survival in Antarctica. Power generation is the major consumer of fossil fuels.

The Antarctic Division is constantly increasing the use of alternative power sources and implementing energy efficiencies.
