Otolith 2

Otoliths are the ear bones of fish. Each fish species has a characteristic otolith and this can help researchers to identify fish recovered from the stomachs and faecal matter of seals and penguins. The otoliths, being bony, are not digested and they can show which fish make up the diet of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic marine animals and birds.
