Working in Antarctica
Each year there are many jobs available supporting our Antarctic programme at the three continental stations and at Macquarie Island.
All our Antarctic stations are run like small towns with facilities for power generation, sewage works, water-making, vehicle maintenance, as well as general living, medical and working locations.
Maintenance of these facilities requires a range of trade, technical and professional skills throughout the year.
This section of our website provides information on general station operations, and the types of jobs required to support them.
Over time, these pages will also provide information about community activities which expeditioners are expected to undertake, such kitchen slushy and cleaning duties, as well as a number of volunteer roles including waste management officer, theatre nursing, fire fighting and station environment officer.
Expeditioners who choose to undertake these roles are given appropriate training before leaving Australia.
