Working as an Electrical Projects Engineer in Antarctica

Annual base salary (while in Australia)

$82,713 pa ($3,171 per fortnight before tax)

In addition whilst working in Antarctica an allowance of $49,041 pa is payable.

As Electrical Projects Engineer you co-ordinate the operations of the energy supply system at Mawson station. The energy supply consists of two 300kW wind turbine generator's (WTG), five diesel generators, grid reactive electric boilers, fuel fired boilers and a power station control system.

The role also involves ensuring smooth operation of the energy supply system by carrying-out programming, fault-finding and optimisation of control system logic. You'll be involved in developing and implementing energy efficient control strategies for building services such as heating, lighting, etc.

In addition, you'll train station based employees in the operation of the energy supply system and associated equipment and review standard operating procedures.

You will have professional engineering qualifications, preferably in an electrical discipline.

The typical employment period for Electrical Projects Engineers is approximately 15 months.

Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.

Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will apply where eligibility to join the Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan is established.
