Annual base salary (while in Australia)

$61,123 ($2,343 per fortnight before tax)

In addition whilst working in Antarctica an allowance of $49,014 pa is payable.

This position is located at Macquarie Island.

As the Senior Expedition Mechanic (SEM) you're responsible for the management and maintenance of mobile and stationary mechanical plant and equipment including: 

  • portable generators/pumps
  • 4x4 tractors
  • forklifts
  • trailer

You'll also manage the fuel farm and the storage of spare parts and materials.

This role involves operation and maintenance of the mechanical side of station power generation facilities, including liaison with relevant trade groups regarding power house maintenance requirements.

You'll operate plant and equipment (loaders, forklifts, tractors, etc) plus provide operator training/endorsement on vehicles and plant as required.

You will have a suitable trade qualification (eg motor mechanic, diesel mechanic, plant mechanic, fitter & turner).

The typical employment period for Senior Expedition Mechanic is approximately 15 months.

Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.

Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will apply where eligibility to join the Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan is established.
