Annual base salary (while in Australia)
$65,811 pa ($2,523 per fortnight before tax) - $80,370 pa ($3,081 pf)
In addition whilst working in Antarctica an allowance of $49,014 pa is payable.
An Electronics Engineer is required to support AAD's Ice, Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate (IOAC) scientific program by installing, commissioning, maintaining, calibrating and modifying electronic instruments and systems for the collection, reduction and analysis of data.
You'll need good hardware and software skills and the ability to produce regular, timely, accurate and comprehensive reports on the status of observatory equipment.
The role is largely supportive, requiring you to apply professional engineering knowledge and skills to the investigation and monitoring aspects of the IOAC research program. This involves working closely with the wintering Lidar Scientist at the station.
As the position will be based in Antarctica, you must be technically resourceful and able to operate with a minimum of supervision.
You will have an Engineering degree majoring in electronics from an Australian University, or qualification of equivalent standard from an Australian or overseas university. These qualifications must confer eligibility for graduate membership to the Institution of Engineers Australia.
The typical employment period for the Electronics Engineer is approximately 18 months.
Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.
Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will apply where eligibility to join the Public Sector Superannuation Accumulation Plan is established.
