This Australian Antarctic Division Service Charter should be read in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts's service Charter.

This charter provides you, our clients, with a clear statement about the work of the AAD and the standard of services you can expect from us.

The AAD has a wide range of clients - other government agencies, treaty partners, the scientific community, our suppliers and the general public. This charter applies to all clients and aims to make sure we each have a common understanding of our roles and responsibilities.

We are committed to providing the highest standards of service and encourage you to provide us with feedback on our performance. We will regularly measure our performance against this charter and your input will be an important part of this assessment.

Who we are

The Australian Antarctic Division is part of the Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. The AAD was established in 1948 to support Australia's Antarctic expeditions. We have been based in Hobart, Tasmania since relocating here from Melbourne in 1981.

We employ over 300 personnel including research and support staff based in Hobart and at our permanent Antarctic stations.

What we do

Our mandate is to advance Australia's Antarctic interests by delivering on Australia's Antarctic policy interests and the Australian Government goals. Together these define what we are here to do and establish our priorities in pursuit of our vision: Antarctica – Valued, Protected and Understood.
